Designing swimwear at Brazilian Coast Beachwear is more than creating garments—it’s about telling a story. Every piece we craft reflects a deep connection to nature, sustainability, and artistry. Today, we invite you to step behind the scenes to discover the journey of our swimwear designs, from the first pencil stroke to the moment they grace the shore.
Step 1: Drawing Inspiration from Nature
The process begins with inspiration. As a Brazilian-born designer, the natural beauty of Brazil’s coastline—its lush vegetation, vibrant wildlife, and shimmering waters—fuels my imagination.
For our Uniqueness collection, I designed a print inspired by a Brazilian endemic begonia named Begonia lunaris, which beautifully reflects the essence of the collection's name: Uniqueness. This remarkable plant, found exclusively in Brazil, features intricate foliage patterns and a luminous quality that evokes the magic of the moon. Its rarity and beauty symbolize the distinctiveness we strive to embody in every design.
Beyond aesthetics, our designs embody a philosophy: harmony with nature. This belief shapes everything we do, from material selection to production practices.
Step 2: Translating Ideas into Sketches
Once inspiration strikes, the sketching begins. Armed with a pencil and a blank page, I bring ideas to life through freehand illustrations. These initial sketches are raw and organic, capturing the essence of the design before refining the details.
I consider every element—the cut, the fit, and how the fabric will move with the body. It’s important to me that each piece feels as good as it looks, empowering women to feel confident and connected to their surroundings.
Step 3: Choosing Sustainable Materials
With sketches in hand, the next step is sourcing materials. Sustainability is at the core of Brazilian Coast Beachwear, so we prioritize biodegradable fabrics that are
gentle on the skin and the planet.
For the swimsuits of Uniqueness and the upcoming Mare collection, we used fabrics that not only decompose within 5 years when disposed in the landfill, but also maintain durability and comfort.
Every detail, from thread to lining, is carefully chosen to align with our eco-friendly ethos.
Step 4: Prototyping and Refining
Our sketches evolve into prototypes through a meticulous process of pattern making and sewing. I execute the creation of sample pieces, testing each design for comfort, fit, and aesthetic appeal. This stage often involves adjustments to ensure the final product meets our high standards.
For example, the placement of the oyster embroidery in the Mare collection required several iterations to achieve the perfect balance of beauty and function.
Step 5: Bringing the Designs to Life
Once the prototypes are perfected, production begins. As a slow fashion brand, all our swimwear is made to order in Hico, Texas. This approach reduces waste and ensures that each piece is crafted with care and precision.
Our team’s dedication shines through in every stitch, reflecting our commitment to quality and sustainability.
Step 6: Sharing the Story
The final step is showcasing our creations to the world. Through lookbooks, social media, and storytelling, we share not just the swimwear but the journey behind it. Each design carries a piece of our passion, from its inspiration to its sustainable production.
We hope that when you wear Brazilian Coast Beachwear, you feel connected to the story and values that shaped your piece. Our swimwear is more than clothing—it’s a celebration of nature, artistry, and the belief that fashion can be a force for good.
